This is the recent experience, in his words, of a resident
of Embleton village (in Hartlepool district), near the
7 Walkway wind turbines:
"We were told at the planning meeting that shadow
flicker would be eliminated by shutting the turbines
off as necessary. I have complained regarding shadow
flicker and it now appears that the sensing equipment
necessary to do this was not fitted!!! So we have to
live with flicker?? Out of interest, I had to contact
Sedgefield council, then Wind Prospect and finally EDF
before I got answers. Also I live 3Km away and suffer
shadow flicker …. we were told this was not possible
beyond 10 x turbine height ie 1.1Km.
Noise: I can hear them at 3km. very dependant on wind
direction / speed etc., also your position. I can hear
them at one end of garden and not the other. I contacted
the Council who offered to come and measure noise levels
IN MY HOUSE! The problem is outside. No measurements
were taken before they went up.
Because our few voices can barely be heard above the
existing turbines, we are viewed as fair game by the
developers for more turbines, and expendable by the
planners.
The most southerly turbine has had its concrete base
inspected due to faults, as it is still used does this
mean everything is OK???
Now the things are up no one wants to know."
